How It Works

Energy Incentives specializes in air barrier and blower door testing for commercial buildings. Our structured process ensures that each project meets energy efficiency and compliance standards specific to Washington and Oregon commercial codes.

Here’s how our process works.

1

Step 1: Contact Us

Make an Appointment
To begin, contact us by email at Dsanders@energyincentivesinc.com call or text 509-619-6797 to schedule an appointment.

Our team is ready to discuss your commercial building’s needs, answer any questions, and provide a quote for preforming an Air Barrier test.

2

Step 2: On-Site Building Evaluation

Site Walkthrough and Visual Inspection
Our certified technicians perform a thorough walkthrough of your building to identify key areas for testing, including exterior walls, windows, doors, and HVAC penetrations. This evaluation helps us create a targeted testing plan.

Defining Project Goals
Based on your project’s unique specifications and Washington and Oregon code requirements, we establish airtightness targets and address any existing concerns related to energy efficiency, indoor air quality, or fire safety.

3

Step 3: Preparing the Building for Testing

Sealing Intentional Openings
Our team seals all “intentional” air openings, such as exhaust fans and fresh air intakes, to measure only unintentional air leaks during testing. Temporary seals are applied to ensure accurate results.

Preparing Access Points
We secure all exterior doors and windows, open interior doors, and prepare any additional areas to ensure a complete and accurate test.

4

Step 4: Conducting Air Barrier and Blower Door Testing

Setting Up Equipment
Commercial-grade blower doors and fans are installed and synchronized using advanced software. For larger commercial properties, multiple fans are used to achieve the correct pressure and capture accurate measurements.

Measuring Air Leakage
Our technicians test the air leakage rate by measuring the volume of air escaping the building in cubic feet per minute per square foot (cfm/ft²). These readings provide a comprehensive view of your building’s airtightness.

5

Step 5: Identifying and Addressing Air Leakage Points

Thermal Imaging and Smoke Testing
We use thermal imaging, smoke testing, and zonal pressure tests to identify specific problem areas and detect significant air leakage. This allows us to provide detailed, actionable recommendations.

Customized Solutions for Air Sealing
Based on the results, we recommend customized sealing solutions using fire-resistant and vapor-permeable materials, ensuring your building achieves optimal airtightness and meets code requirements.

6

Step 6: Final Reporting and Recommendations

Targeted Action Plan
If further improvements are recommended, we outline specific steps to achieve optimal airtightness, enhancing energy efficiency and indoor comfort.

Comprehensive Test Report
We provide a detailed report of the test results, including the building’s air leakage rate and any areas that require additional sealing. This report helps ensure you’re fully compliant with regional standards.
